Debate Outwood

Debate Outwood 2019

Thursday 4th July, Leeds Salon ran the second ever “Debate Outwood” Competition at Outwood Grange Academy, Wakefield, for Years 10&11 pupils (ages 14 to 16 years) from six schools in the Outwood Grange Academy Trust chain.

Congratulation Outwood Academy Freeston who were declared champions, and to all the other school which took part. Congratulation also to Thomas Smith, of Outwood Academy Shafton, nominated ‘Best Individual’ by the judges.

Prize Sponsors included Wakefield-based public sector procurement company YPO, leading law-firm Womble Bond Dickinson, and the Outwood Grange Academies Trust.

Bolton SFC Debating Competition

Thursday 25th April, Leeds Salon ran the first ever Bolton Sixth-Form College Sixth Form Debating Competition. Congratulation to the winners Ashton Sixth-Form College. Congratulation too to Rebecca Parkin of Bolton Sixth-Form College nominated ‘Best Individual’ by the judges.

Headingley FoI Years 10&11 Debating Competition 2019

The Final of the sixth, annual Years 10&11 Debating Competition took place on Wednesday 20th March at the HEART Centre, Headingley, as part of the Headingley Festival of Ideas.

The two north Leeds qualifying round winners, Allerton High and Carr Manor, and the  winners of The Tetley competition for south and central Leeds schools, Woodkirk Academy, competed to be crowned HFoI Champions for 2019..

Big congratulations to winners Allerton High School. Congratulations too to Lizzie Snow of Allerton High who won the ‘Best Individual’ prize, Anandita Ghosh of Woodkirk Academy who won the ‘Highly Commended’ prize, and Amtul Azeem of Carr Manor who won the ‘Commended’ prize. Well done too to all who took part in three tough well argued debates, and for all the contributions from the floor.

The Tetley Years 10&11 Competition 2019

Wednesday 30th January Leeds Salon hosted the fourth debating competition in partnerhisp with The Tetley for years 10&11 pupils for south and central Leeds Schools. This year, regulars Mount St Mary’s and Woodkirk Academy were joined by newcomers Outwood Grange Academy – see details

Congratulations to winners Woodkirk Academy, who will go on to compete in the Headingley Festival of Ideas Years 10&11 Final on 20th March against the north Leeds qualifying round winners. Congratulation too Anandita Ghosh of Woodkirk who won the ‘Best Individual’ prize nominated by the judges.
