Headingley Festival of Ideas Years 10&11 Debating Competition 2016 Final
Wednesday 23 March 2016 – Leeds Salon hosts the third Headingley Festival of Ideas schools debating competition for years 10&11.
This year’s finalists are made up of the three Festival of Ideas qualifying round winners, and the winners of the new Tetley 2016 competition for south and central Leeds schools – making it an all-Leeds event for the first time.
15:40 – DEBATE 1 – “We Need to Build on the Green Belt”
16:45 – DEBATE 2 – “The UK Should Introduce a Levy on Sugary Drinks”
17:45 – Break
18:00 – FINAL – “We Should Welcome the Advent of Genome Editing”
19:15-19:30 – Judge’s Deliberations & Results
WINNERS: Allerton High School – Chani Kandola-Wade, Gurneeka Chana, Martha Amirahmadi, Melissa Mace all received cinema tickets to Hyde Park Picture House and copies of the Oxford Very Short Introduction to the Enlightenment.
RUNNERS-UP: Abbey Grange Academy
BEST INDIVIDUAL: Darragh Kennedy, Cardinal Heenan – being received a family ticket to Thackray Medical Museum and a copy of the Oxford very Short Introduction to Philosophy.
